Pig Candy

If you love bacon, raise your hand.

I’m raising both hands right now with three pieces of bacon in each hand.

Bacon is magic. How can you possibly go wrong with peppered bacon coated with dark brown sugar and maple syrup with a little kick from red pepper flakes?

This is a pretty simple recipe but don’t let it fool you. Take your time and do it right. It will make all the difference and you’ll be glad you did.

Ingredients

  • 1 pound Thick Cut Bacon

  • ½ cups Dark Brown Sugar (more As Needed)

  • 2 tablespoons Pure Maple Syrup

  • ¼ teaspoons Black Pepper

  • ¼ teaspoons of Red Pepper Flakes

  • OPTIONAL: top with Chopped Pecans

Directions

  • Preheat your oven to 350° F.
  • Coat both sides of each bacon slice generously with brown sugar.
  • Arrange the bacon on a wire rack inside a foil lined sheet pan (the foil will make clean up so much easier).
  • Bake in the center rack in your oven until the sugar is starting to caramelize and the bacon just starts to crisp around the edges. Bake until the bacon reaches your desired doneness. This should take about 20 minutes, depending on the thickness of your bacon.
  • Remove from the oven and let sit five minutes.
  • Enjoy, and remeber that “sharing is caring”.
